How to Start Blogging — A Simple Guide from My Own Journey
Hey, it’s Sameer — welcome back to The Daily Edit.
Not long ago, I was just someone who wanted to share thoughts, help others, and maybe build something of my own.
Now I’ve started blogging — and if you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking about it too.
Here’s the good news:
You don’t need to be perfect, famous, or even “ready.”
You just need to start. And I’ll show you exactly how.
💭 1. Know Why You’re Starting
Before you type a single word, ask yourself:
-
Do I want to express my thoughts?
-
Do I want to help others?
-
Do I want to grow a personal brand?
-
Do I want to make money in the future?
Your “why” will keep you going when motivation fades.
My reason? I wanted to be real, honest, and helpful — and inspire others through my journey.
✍️ 2. Pick a Topic (But Don’t Overthink It)
You don’t need to be an expert.
Just choose something you:
-
Enjoy thinking/talking about
-
Have experience with
-
Want to grow in
Popular beginner-friendly blog niches:
-
Lifestyle (like mine)
-
Self-growth or mental health
-
Tech or gaming
-
Fashion or skincare
-
Money & productivity
-
Personal stories (always work!)
I started with lifestyle and self-growth because that’s where I’m living and learning every day.
🌐 3. Choose a Blog Platform
You need a place to post your blog. Here are 3 easy ones:
-
WordPress – Most popular, flexible, good for long-term growth
-
Blogger – Simple and free, good for beginners
-
Medium – Easy to use, built-in audience, no tech needed
-
Substack – Great if you want to send your blog as a newsletter
I recommend WordPress if you want to build your own brand, like I did with “The Daily Edit.”
🖼️ 4. Pick a Blog Name That Feels Like You
This is fun. Choose something short, clear, and memorable.
Tips:
-
Reflect your theme or voice
-
Avoid numbers or complex words
-
Check if the domain is available
I picked “The Daily Edit” because I wanted to share daily thoughts and changes — simple, personal, honest.
🧠 5. Start Writing (Even If It’s Not Perfect)
Your first post doesn’t need to go viral.
It just needs to be real. Share:
-
Your story
-
A personal experience
-
A helpful tip
-
Something you’ve learned
Keep it simple:
-
Use short paragraphs
-
Write like you talk
-
Add a photo or two
-
End with a message
My first blog was about how I wasted time and energy on bad habits. It wasn’t perfect — but it was real.
🔄 6. Be Consistent, Not Crazy
You don’t need to post every day.
Just stay consistent — weekly, biweekly, or whatever works for you.
Create a simple schedule. Treat your blog like a habit, not a task.
💡 7. Share It With the World
Once you post, don’t keep it a secret. Share it:
-
On Instagram stories
-
With friends
-
In your WhatsApp status
-
In Facebook groups
-
On Twitter or X
Someone out there needs to read what you wrote.
🎯 Final Thoughts: Just Start
If you’re waiting to be “good enough,” you’ll wait forever.
The best way to learn blogging is to actually blog.
Start small. Be real. Grow as you go.
And if you ever feel stuck, confused, or discouraged — remember this:
You have a voice. And it matters.
Now go hit “publish.” I’ll be cheering you on.
